Happy Halloween, ghoulish readers! Since today is the spookiest day of all, we’ve decided to conjure up 5 of our favourite horror movies that are currently available to stream on Netflix Canada. So grab your bag of candy, hop on your broomsticks (or your bed) and get ready for some scares.

The Woman In Black

As pointed out before, Radcliffe has made all the right moves since graduating from Hogwarts. He plays a young lawyer who finds himself in a small village where he unearths the ghost of a woman who is terrorizing the town. The Woman In Black is a straight up old school ghost story that relies on tension to get the most out of it’s audience, and it works.

The Descent

This one has stuck with ever since seeing it almost 10 years ago. A group of girls go on a cave expedition that unexpectedly goes awry, become trapped and are hunted by the creatures of the cave. The Descent is weird, scary and creepy as all hell. Enjoy!

Insidious

Insidious is far from perfect and director James Wan has grown a lot since it’s release, but I think it is a spooktacularly fun ghost story that hits all the right notes. It starts as your typical haunted house story: Rose Byrne and Partrick Wilson buy a house soaked with ghosts and the like, and then it’s just all downhill (for the couple) from there. It is the perfect addition to your Halloween binge and tons of fun.

Scream

Scream is essential Halloween viewing as we’ve pointed out before. Smart, funny and genuinely scary, it uses the conventions of the genre to it’s advantage and is a definitive classic of the genre.

The Last Exorcism

Okay, this one is probably the weakest on the list – and if we’re talking modern exorcism movies, The Conjuring is really the only one you need. But, The Last Exorcism does a few things right. The faux-documentary aspect of it gives it that extra edge to sell it’s tired exorcism story (you know, troubled girl filled with demons, same old…) and it contains some genuine jump scares.
